Code of Conduct & Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

    12th International Phycological Congress - IPC2021

    Code of Conduct

The International Phycological Society is dedicated to the promotion of phycology and collaboration of phycologists around the world. The International Phycological Congress is an opportunity for scientists from any country to meet one another, learn from our diverse perspectives and build new collaborations. We hold all delegates to the highest intellectual and professional standards. For the first time in our history, the International Phycological Congress will be held online. The following Code of Conduct is designed to foster a safe and positive experience for all delegates.

    Don’t make it personal

We are a large and diverse group of researchers and educators with different interests, backgrounds, and resources. Public discussion of hypotheses, methods and results is welcome. Public discussion of personal characteristics is not welcome. Personal attacks on individuals because of their race, nationality, gender, or appearance, for example, will not be tolerated.

Kindness and patience are universally appreciated

Presentations at the International Phycological Congress are delivered in English. Online discussions related to presentations should also be conducted in English so that all delegates can participate. For most of us this is not our first language, leaving much room for misunderstanding. Please be patient with all delegates. Your kindness will be remembered long after the meeting.

    Keep the Congress professional

When attending live presentations online, please behave professionally. Wear work-appropriate clothing when presenting, moderating, or participating by video. When you are not speaking, please mute your microphone to minimize distraction from the presentation. Please only post comments and questions relevant to the individual presentation. Moderators will not be able to help participants with any technical challenges or necessarily answer general questions about access or the congress. Comments will be preserved for the duration of the Congress so please use language befitting a professional meeting when commenting on any presentation. Consider how your behavior and your words will be perceived by other delegates including students, colleagues, and potential employers.

Do not take photos, screen captures or recordings

There are differing and strong opinions on recording presentations and photographing posters. Presentations and posters will be available online during the congress. Please do NOT record presentations by photo or video without the express permission of the presenter. Delegates detected recording presentations may be asked to stop or their access to online resources may be terminated. Please be aware that in some jurisdictions it is unlawful to record a conversation without consent of all parties.

    One Congress, one standard

All delegates will be held to the basic standards presented in this Code of Conduct. If these standards are violated, you may be asked to stop your activity or your access to online events may be terminated. Refunds will not be issued.

    Enjoy yourself

These guidelines are provided to insure an enjoyable experience for all delegates. Within these broad limits, please enjoy yourself and take advantage of the many opportunities to learn and discuss science with colleagues. We hope that you meet new friends and collaborators. Enjoy the 12th International Phycological Congress!
